Like a slow motion train wreck we are witnessing the agonizing disintegration of our country.
The press, which used to be our last line of defense, sits on its collective backside as though powerless take action against this dastardly administration, which continues to elude the scrutiny and investigation that it is crying out for. The Washington Post, which almost single handedly stopped Nixon, has evolved into the Neocons' spokesorgan.
Even the NYT, the venerable old Gray Lady, timidly holds back, with only Frank Rich, Maureen Dowd, and a very few others, stepping up to the plate and taking brave swings.
The American people, although gradually seeming to show slightly more awareness of the disaster that is occuring, still are sitting back and seem too stunned, scared, preoccupied or lazy to speak out.
The Republicans, as is their wont, have their Cool Aid at the ready, laced with the poison of selfishness and cowardice, willing to toast their glorious leaders, acting like they all believe that if they, and our country, die soon, they will get the Christian version of the Islamists' 72 virgins: everlasting peace, riches, and maybe even a continual orgasm.
And our Democrats, as brave and effective as they were in the 1930's,and 1940's, slink around as if they are listening to their own Karl Rovian-like advisers, saying that since they don't have the votes for a slam dunk impeachment, they should just sit and watch the country suffer, hoping the longer it goes on, the more chance they will have to solidify power. What they don't seem to realize is that, as the country watches them shirk from action, a pox will be on their house as well.
We are in debt. The Chinese may as well own us, considering they make most of our goods and lend us the huge sums of money we have borrowed to maintain the fantasy that we are still a rich, powerful country.
We keep saying we have the best military in the World, as we watch ourselves lose another stupid, tragic war. We have of course refused to really study what we did wrong in Viet Nam, assuring that we will fulfill Santayana's prediction of repeating history by not understanding it.
And it is us, the American People, who have more power than any people of any country in the history of the World, who passively watch our country disintegrate before our eyes, as if we don't see it, can't believe it, or are powerless to take action.
We need help!
